Don't Forget To Be There
I once wrote a post about how uncool I am and that at least one of my kiddos was following suit. Exhibit A was a picture at the bottom, Drew sitting in the lap of the Ronald McDonald statue. And now I have this photographic proof that my youngest has gone the way of the ham as well. I don't know which of the many factors seem uncool to me about this. It has something to do with our apparent delight in an American icon not usually praised as a beneficial one and the fact that people pose in front of world wonders like the Sphinx and the Lincoln Memorial, yes, but the mascot at a restaurant they can find approximately every six blocks from here to Antarctica? Kind of unusual. Kind of uncool.
I would like to point out, though, that there is a Felicity White child in the picture too. I know Felicity wouldn't have been caught dead in a pose like this from a pretty young age, so it's pretty satisfying that her daughter evidently would.
And now, I can't help but think about the fact that although I remember this picture of Drew, I don't actually remember the day on which it was born. It's not technically a big deal. The only people who remember every day of their life end up on 20/20 to describe how intense that is. But it does make me glad I snapped the picture, glad I snap any pictures at all. And, on the other hand, glad that for most of the moments in my life I'm just living them, not worried so much about what I will remember but whether or not I'm there.
