Just enough, and the rest to share

The flower's from spring, the color's for fall

I saw a news piece a while back on a couple that lives in a tiny one-room apartment. They own just two outfits each. And they ride their bikes to work, dropping off one outfit at the cleaners in the morning, while wearing the other. I don't remember what they did for a living nor what they did with all the income they didn't need for things like Cable or a second pair of shoes. And really, the version of this new live-simply trend that I could handle would be so far removed from that couple's that they wouldn't even recognize my version as a part of the same movement. But I'm still so intrigued by it.

Intrigued as in, slightly more interested than when the men in my life watch that disgusting survivor dude drink his own pee from the inside of a snake and I can't even watch but slightly less than the time I decided to try cloth bags at the grocery store and then actually did it.

All I know is that I look around our house a lot and think about that old Rubbermaid commercial when they look around at the chaos and say, "We have too much stuff." And then they get storage containers from Rubbermaid and it cleans things up so neatly that they look around and say, "We need more stuff." Only I don't want to do the second part. Only the first. I want to clean and clean and buy a big shelf for everything that currently sits on the floor. I want to go ahead and get rid of the things we've had in the attic since we were first married so apparently we don't need them at all. I want to like every part of my house and everything that's in it - or else it has to go. And then I want our actual lives, talking and laughing and loving each other, to fill all that empty space instead of clutter.

That's the plan. Less stuff, more awareness. Less noise, more life. I want my home to be a living breathing epitome of these words from the bible:

This day our daily bread.

and

I shall not want.
