More Things I Love About Christmas
This weekend my holiday really began. I was stuffed full of blog thoughts throughout because it was stuffed full of happy, beautiful moments. Unfortunately, I'm too busy living one of the wonderful thoughts to write about all the others.
See this great picture of our family Christmas party? All the kiddos in matching pajamas? This is what I plan to live (as much as possible) from the time I sent Holly the novel (a couple nights ago) until January 1-ish rolls around, and I get the New Year adrenaline rush that makes me actually want to pack up Christmas (I never believe this is going to happen, and then it always does) and start fresh at making life the best that it can possibly be.
I can't actually sit around in my pajamas day and night. As you can imagine, it's actually kind of a busy time of year. But, People, WHAT EVER YOU HAVE TO DO, find moments - many, many of them - when you can just sit and enjoy your twinkly lights or watch a movie, if that's your thing, or sink into a good book that has nothing to do with homework or work-work or any sort of obligation at all. It's always a shame to me that the Christmas season can go by for people without once looking like a Folgers commercial. You gotta make it happen. I did it this weekend for approximately 114 minutes, and they were the best 114 minutes of a weekend that was chock full of good ones.
One hundred fourteen is the runtime for the 1994 version of Miracle on 34th Street. We watched it at my mom's while I sat on a couch with Michael, and I wrapped a blanket around me, and I didn't multitask or even double-task or think about tasks at all. I just sucked the marrow. And it was wonderful, and it was just one quiet moment in the midst of all kinds of holiday wonderfulness, but it convinced me to do whatever I can to have many. more. of those.
