Before Green Gables: the new Prequel to the single most influential book series OF MY LIFE

Oh the happiness and the joy and the happy, happy joy.

I got this little bit of heaven yesterday. I'm only a few chapters in, but it seems like the author has tried very hard to capture Montgomery's characters and story if not exactly her voice. The love for beauty (in nature and in people) seems to be there. And oh how I love the way she weaves in the things we know to be true - Anne's hatred for geometry is seen in her mother. Her red hair in her father. Her gray/green eyes in her mother again. I'm fascinated by the fact that it was shelved as an adult book when the original was for children. It makes sense somehow, but I'll have to read the whole thing before I can explain it.

Seeing Bertha and Walter Shirley alive and well and loving each other so lovingly that the neighbor can't stand to be around them - I don't know how I'm going to get through work today. I hope I like the rest as much as I love the beginning. Thanks to my friend Anne for making sure I knew this book existed. THAT IS CORRECT. My friend named ANNE (with an e and everything) made sure I knew about this book. Isn't life just charming sometimes?
